APPAREL DESIGN
THE PROCESS
As an Asian American/person of color, topics and issues of mental health are rarely discussed within families and culture. ATARAXY is my visual representation of mental health. I expressed this with subliminal messages through graphic design, textiles and silhouette of the dress. My process begins from a workflow of rough sketches to Adobe Illustrator to experiment and have a clear image of color and textiles. Illustrator helps me understand construction with layers and patterns. Pattern making is my main technique for pre-production. I will drape and fit on model/form for adjustments. Special techniques I used were patch-working, sublimation printing, and vinyl to heat press printing. Lastly, I used 3D/2D animation and design to showcase my collection.
